The picture above and the story below were recently submitted to us at Owner Hooks:

Dear Owner Hooks,

My name is Monty Moncrief. I’m writing this note because I use your hooks and thought you might like to know the capabilities of your hooks.

My friend James Morrison of Brookings, Oregon was trolling his jet boat in the Rogue River Estuary this September for Fall Chinook, something he does most every April through November.

While trolling along with a Chartreuse spinnerblade in front of a sardine hooked up with a #1 SSW Cutting Point (5111-101) nose hook and a ST-41 2X treble in the butt, James hooked into a 32 lb. Monster Chinook that took off like a rocket. It got about 150 yards in 5 seconds and a giant Bull Sea Lion surfaced between the two of them. The sea lion was looking for some lunch, but so was James. He freespooled his reel and the fish took a left and went up Indian Creek (a tributary of the Rogue). The fish managed to elude the sea lion in a big brush pile. It took a while but James got it out of the tree and landed the hog. When the fight was over he pulled out the hooks and in the nose hook was the big fish tooth. The hook had pierced clean through the tooth and still had a sharp point. I’ve been showing it to all our friends and it is just unreal.

Both James and I have used your hooks for years – some guys just don’t understand –you get what you pay for. James and I hook and land without exaggeration 300-500 fish every year and your hooks are in every one of them. Thanks for the great product.

Monty Moncrief
